After The Messiah was charged with blasphemy he was placed into a prison
until the next morning, when he was taken before Pontius Pilate the governor.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8 He was [laqach..get, fetch, be fetched, bring, be brought, be taken, be taken away, take (away), be taken up] taken from [otser..oppression, restraint, constraint, closure, prison] prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. Isa 53:7,8

What were the prisons like around the time of The Messiah?

17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,
18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the [demosios..public, belonging to the public, open, common] common [ of keeping, hold, prison] prison.
19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the [phulake..hold, cage, ward, prison, watch, a place of guarding] prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the [ of bonds] prison to have them brought.
22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told,
23 Saying, The [ of bonds, dungeon, prison] prison truly found we shut with all [asphaleia..certainty, safety, security] safety, and the [phulax..keepers, watchmen, guard] keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within. Acts 5:17-23 The prison was a place that was owned by the public, and lots of people were imprisoned together. Some of the prison may have been under the ground. The doors were kept securely shut, and there were guards who stood outside of the prison, in front of, those securely shut doors.

1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.
2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)
4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in [phulake..hold, cage, ward, prison, watch, a place of guarding] prison, and delivered him to four [ of four soldiers] quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after [Pascha..passover, a passing over] Easter to bring him forth to the people.
5 Peter therefore was kept in [phulake..hold, cage, ward, prison, watch, a place of guarding] prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the [phulax..keepers, watchmen, guard] keepers before the door kept the [phulake..hold, cage, ward, prison, watch, a place of guarding] prison.
7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the [oikema..prison, jail] prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.
8 And the angel said unto him, [perizonnumi..gird one’s self, gird about] Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.
10 When they were past the first and the second [phulake..hold, cage, ward, prison, watch, a place of guarding] ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.
11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.
13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.
14 And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.
15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.
16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.
17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go show these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place. Acts 12:1-17..The prison was a place where people were guarded. The prison had more than one room. The prison had an iron gate. People were were chained. And the people were guarded by soldiers. There were guards in front of the prison door..The guards of the prison were soldiers. Sometimes, soldiers stayed on either side of a prisoner as he slept. There were no prison clothes, because in verse 8 we can see that Peter had his own clothing and footwear with him.

13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which show unto us the way of salvation.
18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of The Messiah to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
19 And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,
20 And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
21 And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.
22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the [desmophulax..keeper of the prison, guard of the prison] jailor to keep them safely:
24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the [esoteros..inner, innermost, within] inner prison, and made their feet fast in the [xulon..wood, tree, stocks] stocks.
25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.
27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ The Messiah, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
35 And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.
36 And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.
37 But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.
38 And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.
39 And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.
40 And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed. Acts 16:13-33..Magistrates ripped peoples clothes off them and had them beaten..The people were beaten with many stripes..People were then thrown into prison. Where their feet were placed in wooden stocks..There was an inner prison..The keeper of the prison then placed guards over the people to keep them securely in the prison..The men who guarded the prisoners carried swords upon their bodies.

10 Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them. Acts 26:10..Some of the people who were placed in prisons were put to death.

Magistrates ripped peoples clothes off them and had them beaten..The people were beaten with many stripes..People were then thrown into prison..The prison was a place that was owned by the public..There was a keeper of the prison..And the keeper of the prison placed guards over the people to keep them securely within the prison..The prison had more than one room..The prison had an inner room..Some of the prison may have been under the ground..The prison had an iron gate..Lots of people were imprisoned together..People were were chained..And people had their feet placed in wooden stocks..The people were guarded by soldiers..The soldiers who guarded the prisoners carried swords upon their bodies.. Sometimes, soldiers stayed on either side of a prisoner as he slept..There were no prison clothes..The doors were kept securely shut..And soldiers stood in front of those securely locked prison doors..Some of the people who were placed in prisons were put to death.

What did The Messiah do with the time that he spent in prison?

18 For The Messiah also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the [pneuma..spirits, life] spirits in prison; 1 Peter 3:18,19

The Messiah preached the gospel to the prisoners with whom he was imprisoned.

Note: The Messiah was imprisoned after his trial, and he spent some of the night in a prison. He was a preacher, and while being wounded he may have preached to prisoners who questioned him about his injuries, and who were glad to hear him, or who hated him! Or maybe this account of The Messiah preaching to prisoners, is referring to him preaching to the devil’s imprisoned captives on the earth.
