13 And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14 Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:
15 No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.
16 I will therefore chastise him, and release him. Lke 23:6-16

1 Then Pilate therefore took Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛, and scourged him.
2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,
3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

31 And after that they had mocked him, Matt 27:31..Mk 15:20

4 Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.
5 Then came Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man! Jn 19:1-5..The Messiah has been judged and found not guilty by Pilate and Herod, he has been flogged..Matt 27:26 & Mk 15:15 and is now, ready to be released.

6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, [[to impale on the cross; to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. stake post (as set upright), pole cross (an instrument of capital punishment); exposure to death, self denial; the atonement of The Messiah: – cross.] crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and [to impale on the cross; to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. stake post (as set upright), pole cross (an instrument of capital punishment); exposure to death, self denial; the atonement of The Messiah: – cross.] crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;
9 And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛, Whence art thou? But Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ gave him no answer.
10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to [to impale on the cross; to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. stake post (as set upright), pole cross (an instrument of capital punishment); exposure to death, self denial; the atonement of The Messiah: – cross.] crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
11 Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.
13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. Jn 19:6-13

19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. Matt 27:19..Pilate wanting to release The Messiah probably thinks about the matter and decides to free The Messiah by asking the people to choose between The Messiah the innocent man, and Barrabas the murderer, and thief. Pilate’s reasoning night be telling him that the people will choose The Messiah.

14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: Jn 19:14

15 Now at that passover feast the governor released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired. Matt 27:15..Mk 15:6..Jn 18:39

17 (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.) Lke 23:17

16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.) which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection. Math 27:16..Mk 15:7..Lke 23:19

8 And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them. Mk 15:8

17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛which is called The Messiah? Jn 18:39..Matt 27:17

10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy. Matt 27:18..Mk 15:10

20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛. Matt 27:20

9 Pilate the governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? Matt 27:21..Jn 18:39..Mk 15:9

11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them. Mk 15:11

40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber. Jn 18:40..Matt 27:21

12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews? Mk 15:12..Matt 27:22..Jn 19:14

13 And again they all cried out at once unto him, saying, Away with him, Away with this man, [to impale on the cross; to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. stake post (as set upright), pole cross (an instrument of capital punishment); exposure to death, self denial; the atonement of The Messiah – cross.] Crucify him. and release unto us Barabbas: Mk 15:13..Matt 27:22..Jn 19:15..Lke 23:18

14 and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! Shall I [to impale on the cross; to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. stake post (as set upright), pole cross (an instrument of capital punishment); exposure to death, self denial; the atonement of The Messiah: – cross.] crucify your King? The chief priests cried, We have no king but Caesar. [to impale on the cross; to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. stake post (as set upright), pole cross (an instrument of capital punishment); exposure to death, self denial; the atonement of the Messiah: – cross.] Crucify him, [to impale on the cross; to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. stake post (as set upright), pole cross (an instrument of capital punishment); exposure to death, self denial; the atonement of the Messiah: – cross.] crucify him. Jn 19:14..Lke 23:21

14 Then Pilate the governor willing to release Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ said, unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go. Matt 27:23..Lke 23:22..Mk 15:14..Jn 19:14

23 And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be [to impale on the cross; to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. stake post (as set upright), pole cross (an instrument of capital punishment); exposure to death, self denial; the atonement of The Messiah: – cross.] crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed. Lke 23:23

24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. Matt 27:24,25

15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, gave sentence that it should be as they required. Mk 15:15..Lke 23:24

25 And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; Lke 23:25..Matt 27:26..Mk 15:15

16 Then he delivered Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ to them (the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, and the officers..The whole multitude..The whole council..The Jews..Jn 19:6,7,12-16..Matt 27:1,2..Mk 15:1..Lke 23:1) to their desire, to be [to fasten to, to impale (on a cross): – to fix to, crucify, [to (fix, peg), to (pitch, set up).] [before, in front of.] crucified. Jn 19:16..Pilate gave The Messiah back to the chief priests and the scribes and the elders of the people (whole multitude..Lke 23:1) for them to crucify him..*Jn 18:31..*Jn 19:6.. *Matthew 27:24

16 And they (the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, and the officers..The whole multitude..The whole council..The Jews..Jn 19:6,7,12-16..Matt 27:1,2..Mk 15:1..Lke 23:1) took the purple robe off Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛, and put his own raiment (clothes) on him, and led him out to [to impale on the cross; to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. stake post (as set upright), pole cross (an instrument of capital punishment); exposure to death, self denial; the atonement of The Messiah: – cross.] crucify him. Matthew 27:31..Mark 15:20..John 19:16

It is obvious that Pontius Pilate wanted absolutely nothing to do with it, and it would appear that the only thing he did have to with it was 1) He judged The Messiah. 2) He sent the Messiah to Herod to be judged. 3) He listened to his wife and probably heeded her advice. 4) He may have questioned others about the Messiah. 5) He scourged The Messiah, which he probably did in the hope that the Jews would be content and allow him to release the Messiah, whom he wanted to set free..Jn 19:12..Lke 23:16,22.. Acts 3:13.. and 6) He passed sentence that the Messiah was to be crucified. Lke 23:24 There is no record in the bible that says Pilate asked his soldiers to bash, abuse, and or, mock The Messiah.

And Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and he said to them, You have brought this man to me, as one that is [apostrepho] perverting the people: and, I having questioned him before you, have found no [aition..cause, case, fault, crime] crime in this man in relation to those things that you are accusing him of.

And neither did Herod: because I sent you to him; and, look, he has done nothing that is worthy of death.

I will therefore [paideuo] chasten him, and [apoluo] set him free.

Then Pilate’s soldiers took Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ and led him into the common hall, called Praetorium; (Pilate’s office).

And Pilate flogged him.

And the soldiers gathered together the whole band of soldiers (a mass of men), and brought them to Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛.

And they stripped him, and they put a scarlet (purple) robe on him.

And they platted a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they put a cane in his right hand:

And they bowed their knees before him, and they worshipped him.

And they began to take him in their arms, and greet (welcome) him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
and they treated him like a child, and they jeered, and derided, and mocked him.

And they spat on him, and they repeatedly beat him with their hands.

And they took the cane and they repeatedly hit him on the head with the cane.

And when they had finished treating him like a child, and jeering him, and deriding him, and mocking him,

Then Pilate went out before the multitudes again, and he said to them, Behold, I bring him out to you, for you to know, that I find no crime in him.

Then Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ came outside, and he was wearing the crown of thorns, and the scarlet (purple) robe.

And Pilate said to them, Behold the man!..The Messiah has been judged and found not guilty by Pilate and Herod, he has been flogged..Matt 27:26 & Mk 15:15 and is now, ready to be released.

But when the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, and said [G4717 σταυρόω stauroō stow-ro’-o From G4716; to impale on the cross; abstractly to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. G4716 σταυρός stauros stow-ros’ From the base of G2476; stake or post (as set upright), (specifically) a pole or cross (as an instrument of capital punishment); Abstractly exposure to death, self denial; implying the atonement of The Messiah: – cross.] crucify him, [G4717 σταυρόω stauroō stow-ro’-o From G4716; to impale on the cross; abstractly to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. Pilate said to them, You take him, and [G4717 σταυρόω stauroō stow-ro’-o From G4716; to impale on the cross; abstractly to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. The Jews said to Pilate, We have a law, and by our law he should die, because he made himself the Son of God.

When Pilate heard what the chief priests and the officers said, he became more frightened;

And he went into the judgment hall again, and he said to Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛, Where did you come from? But Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ did not answer him.

Then Pilate said to him, You will not speak to me? Don’t you know that I have the power to crucify you? and the power to [apoluo] set you free?

Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛said to Pilate, You could have no power at all against me, except it was given to you from above:
therefore he that delivered me to you has the greatest sin.

And from that time on Pilate tried to set Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ free: but the Jews cried out, If you set this man free, you are not Caesar’s friend: whoever makes himself a king is speaking against Caesar.

When Pilate heard what the Jews said, he brought Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ [exo..forth, out, without] outside, and he sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew language, Gabbatha.

And when he was seated, his wife sent a message ?? by someone?? to him, and she said, Have nothing to do with that just man: because I have suffered many things today in a dream because of him..Pilate wanting to release The Messiah probably thinks about the matter and decides to free the Messiah by asking the people to choose between The Messiah the innocent man, and Barrabas, the murderer and thief. Pilate’s reasoning might be tellsing him that the people will choose The Messiah?

And it was about the sixth hour of the day of the preparing of the [pascha] passover.

Now at at that [pascha] passover feast the governer released a prisoner to the people, which ever prisoner they wanted.

Because it was customary to free a prisoner at the feast.

And at that time they had a notable prisoner called Barabbas, a thief..Jn 18:40..who was bound in prison with those who had [sustasiastes..aided..abetted] helped him cause an [stasis] uprising in the city, and who had committed murder during the uprising.

Therefore when all of the people were gathered together, and the multitude was calling out to the governer to release a prisoner to them.

Pilate said to the people, Who (which prisoner) do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ which is called The Messiah the King of the Jews?

Because he knew that the chief priests had delivered him because they were jealous of him.

But the chief priests and the elders convinced the multitude to call for Barabbas to be freed, and [apollu] Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ to be killed.

Then Pilate said to them, Which one of the two would you like me to release to you. would you like me to give you the King of the Jews?

But the chief priests [anaseio] stirred up the people, so they would ask Pilate to give Barabbas to them.

And they all cried out again, and they said, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a thief.

And Pilate answered and said to them again, Then what do you want me to do to him, whom you call the King of the Jews?

And they all cried out together to him, and they said, Take him away, Take this man away, [G4717 σταυρόω stauroō stow-ro’-o From G4716; to impale on the cross; abstractly to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. G4716 σταυρός stauros stow-ros’ From the base of G2476; stake or post (as set upright), (specifically) a pole or cross (as an instrument of capital punishment); Abstractly exposure to death, self denial; implying the atonement of The Messiah: – cross.] Crucify him, and give us Barrabas.

And Pilate said to the Jews, Behold your King! Shall I [G4717 σταυρόω stauroō stow-ro’-o From G4716; to impale on the cross; abstractly to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. G4716 σταυρός stauros stow-ros’ From the base of G2476; stake or post (as set upright), (specifically) a pole or cross (as an instrument of capital punishment); Abstractly exposure to death, self denial; implying the atonement of The Messiah: – cross.] crucify your King? and the chief priests cried out, We have no king but Caesar. [G4717 σταυρόω stauroō stow-ro’-o From G4716; to impale on the cross; abstractly to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. Then Pilate [boulomai] intending to set Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ free, said to them the *third time, Why, what evil has he done?
I have found no reason for him to be put to death..*Pilate made three attempts to set The Messiah free.

And with their loud voices they put pressure on Pilate to [G4717 σταυρόω stauroō stow-ro’-o From G4716; to impale on the cross; abstractly to extinguish (subdue) passion or selfishness: – crucify. G4716 σταυρός stauros stow-ros’ From the base of G2476; stake or post (as set upright), (specifically) a pole or cross (as an instrument of capital punishment); Abstractly exposure to death, self denial; implying the atonement of The Messiah: – cross.] crucify Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛. And the voices of the multiude and of the chief priests [katischuo..prevailed] overpowered Pilate.

And when Pilate saw that he could not win, but that there was an uproar among the people, he took water, and he washed his hands before the multitude, and he said, I am not [atthoos..guiltless, innocent] guilty for the [haima..blood] death of this [dikaios..right, righteous, just] righteous person: you see to it.

Then all of the people answered and said, The responsibility for his [haima..blood] death be on us, and on our children.

And so Pilate [boulomai] willing to satisfy the people, [epikrino] passed the judgment that Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ should be [G4362 προσπήγνυμι prospēgnumi pros-payg’-noo-mee From G4314 and G4078; to fasten to, to impale (on a cross): – to fix to, crucify, [G4078 to (fix, peg), to (pitch, set up). Acts 2:23] crucified.

And he released to the people Barabbas, who for [stasis] causing an uproar among the people and for murder was thrown into prison, the one that the people wanted.

16 Then he delivered Yehôshûa‛ Yehôshûa‛ to them (the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, and the officers..The whole multitude..The whole council..The Jews..Jn 19:6,7,12-16..Matt 27:1,2..Mk 15:1..Lke 23:1) to their desire, to be [G4362 προσπήγνυμι prospēgnumi pros-payg’-noo-mee From G4314 and G4078; to fasten to, to impale (on a cross): – to fix to, crucify, [G4078 to (fix, peg), to (pitch, set up).
